It is a pioneering indicator because, for the first time, it uses data from public and private sources to better analyze the phenomenon and offer a more precise and clear vision of it.
It collects data on the three dimensions of the digital divide: infrastructure, equipment and digital uses, with the aim of promoting policies and actions to reduce inequalities in access to and use of digital services.
The data confirm that older people and those living in rural or mountainous areas encounter specific barriers in basic digital services such as health or public administration. The novelty is that the index shows where these barriers occur, at a regional and Catalan level.
Age is the variable with the most pronounced digital divide: almost half of older people do not use online banking and only a little more than half access 'La Meva Salut'.
The Taula del Tercer Sector Social and the UOC have developed a pioneering indicator to measure and reduce digital inequalities in Catalonia.
